URGENT UPDATE– HB 5002 Passes the House, Moves on to the Senate
HB 5002, a proposed law that will severely damage Michigan workers’ compensation rights has passed the House of Representatives. This bill allows employers to reduce an injured worker’s benefits by “theoretical” jobs that may not even exist in the economy. It also forces an injured worker to treat with company doctors for the first 45 days after an injury. McCroskey Law has fought for over 60 years for the rights of injured workers. Unfortunately, HB 5002 will slash these rights, and potentially put increased stress on Michigan’s Medicaid and Unemployment programs.
Why are insurance companies and self-insured employers pushing for these changes? Big Business claims that these changes are needed to encourage growth in Michigan. Big Business claims that our workers’ compensation system is too expensive. Amazingly, Michigan’s workers’ compensation system already has some of the lowest costs in the United States.
Contact your representatives today, and tell them that HB 5002 is bad for Michigan.
